Topological Optimization Publication Appears in PNAS
Facial reconstruction patients may soon have the option of custom-made and optimized bone replacements thanks to the collaboration between researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Ohio State University. Professor Paulino, together with former research group member Alok Sutradhar, PhD, present research group member Tam Nguyen, and Michael J. Miller, MD developed a technique to use topology optimization to create patient-specific, case-by-case designs for tissue-engineered bone replacements.

The work was published in PNAS on the week of Monday, July 12, 2010.
