Fatigue endurance under multiaxial loadings

The goal of this lecture is to present some recent research activities on fatigue performed by the group of Mechanics of Materials of the Department of techanical Engineering at University of Brasilia. Emphasys will be given to a fatigue endurance criterion proposed within the setting of situations where the mechanical component is subjected to a broad class of multiaxial loadings. The basic feature of the model is a new definition of the shear stress amplitude, which is computed as a simple measure of the convex hull associated with the multiaxial stress path. Assessment of the resulting criterion shows that it compares well with experimental data published in the literature. Preliminary results on fretting fatigue will be presented as well.
