Emerging Technologies for Layered Materials and FGMs |

Layered materials and FGMs are made in laboratories utilizing
powder stacking process with a "Layer-by-layer" approach,
followed by conventional pressing and sintering. This process is
not generally suitable for mass production of layered materials
and FGMs. Thus, in recent years, some emerging technologies, which
stem from powder metallurgy or advanced ceramics, have being developed
for making layered materials and FGMs. Such techniques are showing
great potential for realizing low cost, and achieving mass production
of layered materials and FGM with various functionalities. These
emerging technologies include, for example, self-propagating high-temperature
synthesis (SHS), injection molding,, rapid electrophoresis, dynamic
compaction, laser deposition prototyping, ultra-high consolidation
with graded sintering, and spark plasma sintering (SPS). This Mini-symposium
(MS) is open for submission of proposals and presentations on emerging
technologies for making layered materials and FGMs. |
